Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder:
Obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors can co-occur in the context of depression and anxiety and they can perpetuate one another. For example, ruminating or engaging in repetitive behaviors may distract you from your feelings of emptiness; however, it may ultimately result in more social withdrawal and therefore more isolation and loneliness. Some individuals with obsessive-compulsive characteristics can be perfectionistic. They may have high standards for themselves that most others might find unrealistic to achieve. Even if you can obtain them (many individuals with OCD are high achievers), it typically comes at a cost as pressure builds up internally that needs to be released. In order to release the pent-up inner tension, individuals may experience recurring, unwanted thoughts, images or sensation that may or may not lead them to perform repetitive behaviors which can offer an illusion of control. These thoughts or rituals can be very time-consuming and interfere with daily life. No matter how your symptoms are expressed, I will help you explore your inner world and release pressure by creating awareness and providing compassionate guidance.
